What is Miles4Milo?

On the 24th January myself and Miles' world was devastated when our beautiful boy Milo George Millen died during a morning nap, aged just 17 months. Milo was the apple of our eyes and that of his grandparents, older sister, aunties and uncle too.

Milo was an energtic, happy and fun-loving wee boy, who was growing and developing a strong personality of his own; working out how to get his own way and make others laugh.

His death came out the blue with no warning. An hour or so after settling him down for a sleep we were living every family's worst nightmare. The sense of loss, grief and pain is enormous. We are aware this sense of loss was felt by many in Callander and Killin and surrounding coummnity. We would like to thank all those who sent cards, containing kind thoughts and prayers, and those who attended Milo's funeral as their support was much appreciated at a very painful time.

Coming to terms with Milo's death is a difficult and painful journery and a journery that will never end. Along with family and friends supporting us along our journey is the Scottish Cot Death Trust. The support and information given to us by them has been invaluble. It is through them I have discovered that a cot death happens every 9 days in Scotland alone!

The Scottish Cot Death Trust is the only Scottish charity dedicated to raising awareness of cot death, funding research in a bid to discover why cot deaths occur, educating professionals and supporting families devastated by the loss of a baby to cot death. They receive less than 3% of its annual income from the Government and relies almost totally on public donations, so they desperately need the support of the public and eager fundraisers to help sustain and develop their vital services across Scotland and combat the devastation cot death can cause.

It is because of this, Miles and myself felt passionatley about doing something to support them in their good work, in memory of our son. Milo had loved his daddy's motorbike from being tiny, taking any opprtunity to clamber on to it. So in August 2010 Miles and 2 friends Micheal McKay and Louis Moir plan to ride their motorbikes from John O' Groats to Land's End, aiming to finish on 7th August, Milo's 2nd Birthday.

If you would like to sponser them and help support the fantasic work of the Scottish Cot Death Trust, you can donate online at Just Giving. There will also be sponsor forms available from the beginning of July in Killin Libary, Old Mill shop and the newsagents.

Your support would be much appreciated, thank you.
